Father & Son, Two Wars
The Artists Gt Grandfather Maurice Augustus Staunton & a 17 year old Uncle Paddy 1939 just before he set off with the B.E.F to fight the Germans a second time in 2o years.
My Gt Grandfather a WW1 Lancashire Fusilier having enlisted at 15 years of age fought at Delville Wood and Passchendaele (where he received machine gun wounds which left him with injuries for the rest of his life).
Uncle Paddy was named after My Gt Uncle Pte 10312 Patrick Thomas Staunton, 1st BN Welsh Regiment, K.I.A 20th Feb 1915 at the Bluff, Ypres.
My Gt Uncle is commemorated on the Menin Gate, and is not forgotten....
